Austria’s Restaurants, Schools and Public Pools Reopen
We’re amongst the first countries in the world slowly reopening our economy and lifting most lockdown measures. Here’s an outlook what might await you.
Let me start by introducing you to the current situation in my country.
At the time of writing (21st of May 2020):
- just shy of 9 million people total
- 385.637 tests (PCR)
- 16.333 positive results
- 820 still active, confirmed cases
- 601 deaths “with” or “by” Corona, still based only on unreliable PCR-testing method, hardly any antibody-testing, no dual-testing for Influenza, no autopsies
- normal daily mortality rate of 227 (2019), all causes combined
- about 580.000 people unemployed (highest number since WWII)
- about 1,2 million people in “short-work” and/or home office, with government funding, which will run out end of June — another wave of layoffs is expected by then
- the whole “workforce” of Austria (meaning people in the right age and circumstance to go and work) is only about 4.3 million
- hard lockdown started 15th of March 2020
