Luckily we are free to choose what media we consume right? Content with questionable narrative and implications does not magically convert everyone who touches it into its exact same mindset and worldview. Shooter games don’t make killers and cooking shows don’t make chefs.

With a widening perspective, better education and and a sensibility for context and intent I do personally think the influence of controversial works of art is actually less now than it was back then and there is no valid reason for society-wide condemnation, censorship or a version for „modern audiences“.

It muddies the waters of history and robs us of important lessons if we adjust classic works of art to modern sentiments.

I would still have my children read it, even if I personally was never really wooed by it as a kid, give context and guidance (like parents should) and discuss it.

There is no such thing as „harmful content“ for educated, free minded people who have a good grasp on reality!
