Since the dawn of time people enjoyed their times off — and rightly so. Pastimes are important to relieve stress and keep your mind fresh and alert.
In our modern world boredom has been successfully eradicated. There is always something to do. A video to watch, another ad to click, another candy to crush. We’re so occupied doing… something, some of us might feel the need to go backwards, to more simple, “less techy” experiences.
“Digital Detox” has been a buzz-phrase for quite some while now and it keeps popping up on social media, but do we actually follow through, or even care? Are we willing to take a step back to try to avoid the ever-attention-craving high-tech commodities of modern life at least in our sparetime?
For a while now, I’ve tried. And then stuck to it. Maybe there’s some inspiration to have for you as well.
Why even?
The luxury of being “unboreable”, while arguably being eroding to your creativity, is an achievement of only recent times. To indulge in, whatever it is that keeps you busy as a pastime, is mostly visual in nature. With very little phyiscal interaction (i.e. swiping, touching, pinching). Or god forbid… thinking. It’s mostly “reactionary” activities.
If you think about it. This is dull. Really dull.
