The Best Windows 10 Keyboard Shortcuts You Didn’t Know
To speed up your worfklow — a keyboard warrior you must become.
If you’re old(school) like me and still can remember the glory days of DOS (disk operating system, way before modern Windows), you probaly use a lot of keyboard shortcuts during your workflow. They are the quicker way to get recurring stuff and menial tasks done easily — who needs the Touchbar anyways, right? So if you don’t use shortcuts, you really should start right now, especially in any professinal environment, where speed and productivity are key!
Probably most of us work with the classics, like:
- Ctrl + A to select “all”
- Ctrl + C to copy
- Ctrl + X to cut
- Ctrl + V to paste
- Ctrl + Z to undo
- Ctrl + Y to redo
- Ctrl + W to close the current window/app
Most of them work in many apps and programs as well, not just on the operating system level. But there are plenty more, sometimes kind of hidden shortcuts, while working in Windows 10. To make effective use of your time and cut back on mouse usage as much as possible, I recommend getting a good, fun-to-use keyboard, a laptop sporting an industry leading keyboard and memorizing the following shortcuts…
The best Windows 10 shortcuts to remember
I’ll be using “WK” instead of “Windows Key”.
- WK + Shift + S to take a Screenshot easily
(this is really great and hardly anyone ever uses it) - WK+ I to open Settings
(always handy) - WK + D to minimize all Windows and show the desktop
(to get rid of the Window clutter) - WK + S to open Search
(similar to CMD + Space on a Mac, actually useful) - WK + T to cycle through open Apps in the Windows Taskbar
(similar to Alt + Tab) - WK + V to open the clipboard bin and easily paste multiple content
(so useful, but almost universally unknown) - WK + Ctrl + Shift + B to wake up a device in “deep sleep”
(from a black screen) - WK + . (period) or …
