These Retrogames Have Therapeutic Value
When was the last time you completed some really hard task, that you couldn’t finish in one sitting and that required you to adapt to many, ever-changing, challenging situations?
If the answer is “it’s a while” or “can’t remember” then I’d argue you are a comfort-seeker that avoids difficult situations to enjoy life the easy way. Probably you have many unfinished goals stored away in the back of your head and that ever-dreaded feeling of subtle guilt is creeping up closer and closer with each passing day.
You might also have trouble with pattern-recognition, short-term memorization and focus, your smartphone is your companion on the toilet and at least once a day you get trapped in your doom-scrolling-routine.
Congratulations, you are modern human with a burned-out dopamine-reward system.
Try this fix
While my advice has absolutely no medical background or any other value than of personal anecdote, it might still be worth trying.
Choose any old retro system that features somewhat abstract graphics and limited sound capabilities. Something that is not too fancy but still enjoyable enough that you can stick with it. I recommend something of the 8-bit or 16-bit…
