Why You Should Try Cherry MX Clear Switches
Okay. I’ve been trying to scale back on my mechanical keyboard addiction quite a bit, because as a german language native, it’s not really a viable hobby to get into custom mechanical keyboards. Also, mechanical keyboards are a huge time and money sink and you’re always chasing “the next best thing”.
That said, the Ducky One 3 SF Classic finally came out in ISO-DE layout. It’s a hot-swap mechanical keyboard but you still get a lot of (Cherry) options to choose from. I’m not the biggest fan of Cherry switches (I used to love the Cherry MX Blue switches), but to be honest, all of them are serviceable for their purpose. Lately I found myself enjoying linear switches, coming from the clicky camp. I never enjoyed tactile switches much though and I think that Cherry brown switches are just awful.
But. What if they actually were more tactile?
Enter Cherry MX Clear switches
They are really just that. More bump, slightly stronger feather. And hey, they have horrid spring ping, they are not as smooth as certain Gaterons, but… I like them. It’s refreshing having something completely new tickle your fingertips. So, if you’re too far down in the rabbit hole of mechanical keyboards and need some “grounding experience”. I can recommend the Cherry MX Clears and I can especially recommend the Ducky One 3 SF, it’s just the perfect mechanical keyboard layout for me and I love the PBT keycaps.
Cherry MX Clears — give them a whirl. They are like the unexpected child in a patchwork-family, after a while, you grow to love them.
No matter if you’re using them for mundane office work, to write your next bestselling novel or if you’re an avid gamer, the Cherry MX Clears, while nothing too fancy, can fill any of those roles with ease. Give them a chance. You know, you want to. Don’t resist…
No matter what switch you ultimately choose, we all in the mechanical keyboard community need to face these 10 unpopular truths about mechanical keyboards.
